What is Invisalign and how does clear aligner therapy work?
Invisalign is the leading manufacturer of clear dental aligners. At Four Points Dental Studio, our dentists provide patients with an affordable option for Austin Invisalign treatment!
Invisalign is an orthodontics option that uses state-of-the-art technology and proprietary inflexible plastic to shift your teeth into the proper position. Because Invisalign clear aligners are custom-made from a well-defined digital impression, they fit you very precisely. Over the course of treatment, you will use a new set of aligners approximately every 1-2 weeks. Invisalign works by slowly shifting your teeth into the appropriate alignment with each new aligner. This results in a straighter smile!

Why is it important to align my teeth?
Aligning your teeth is about so much more than just cosmetics! A stable bite with accurate alignment promotes good oral health. Patients with tooth crowding or spacing have a more difficult time properly cleaning their teeth. As a result, this leads to more cavities and an increased risk of gum disease.
An unbalanced bite will also lead to tooth wear, chipping and fractures. Excessive force on certain teeth can translate stress to your TMJ (temporomandibular joint). This can lead to TMJ-disease.
Many dental patients have a deep bite, meaning that their upper front teeth overlap their lower front teeth too much. As a result, you experience a lot of front tooth wear. This tooth wear is visible in the appearance of your smile. More importantly however, excessive tooth wear causes your bite to collapse. This can lead to thousands of dollars in avoidable dental treatment such as crowns, veneers and dental implants.
Consider investing in your oral health, and save yourself from preventable dental treatments and expenses! Our Austin Invisalign treatment can transform your smile and contribute to the long-term health of your teeth and gums.

Why choose Invisalign over braces?
Patients love Invisalign because the trays are barely visible. You can now undergo orthodontic treatment without the need for metal brackets and wires that come with traditional braces.
From a health perspective, patients enjoy a variety of additional advantages for choosing Invisalign as opposed to braces. Without the cumbersome brackets and wires from braces, hygiene becomes much easier. This results in a drastic decrease in the risk of cavities and periodontal disease during treatment. In addition, advancements in clear aligner therapy have allowed us to complete your treatment at a much quicker pace!
Our dentists would love to help you experience the benefits and increased confidence you gain with straighter teeth and a healthy smile.

Does dental insurance cover Invisalign?
More often than not, dental insurance does not cover Invisalign for adults. Insurance companies typically have an age-limit for orthodontic coverage. Alternatively, some insurances will only cover the cost of traditional braces but not clear aligner therapy.
However, a few insurance companies are beginning to cover a portion of the cost of Invisalign. We have seen insurance companies reimburse anywhere from $1,500-$3,000 of the total clear aligner treatment cost. Our insurance coordinators will be sure to check on your orthodontic coverage prior to starting your Austin Invisalign treatment.

Four Points Dental Studio offers flexible financing to help pay for your treatment! Many of our patients take advantage of Care Credit to finance their dental therapy. Through this service, you may choose from a range of available financing plans. Two years interest-free financing is one of our most popular options!

Invisalign Frequently Asked Questions
How long does Invisalign treatment take?
Duration of clear aligner therapy depends on the amount of correction needed. Light cases may be completed in as little as three months. However, longer cases may take over a year. The average treatment time is one year.
How often do I change my clear aligners?
Most patients will change their dental trays once a week. For more complicated adjustments, we may extend tray wear to 10 or 14 days.
How often do I wear my aligner trays?
You will wear your trays for at least 22 hours a day. You typically only take them out to eat and brush your teeth.
Can I eat with my Invisalign aligners in?
We recommend taking out your dental aligners while eating. However, certain foods can be eaten with aligners. Most of our patients opt to remove their clear dental trays while eating to prevent food from becoming trapped underneath them.
Can I drink coffee or wine with my aligners in?
Good news! You will be able to enjoy your coffee or wine during Invisalign treatment! Since you are changing your clear aligners so frequently, you will be ready to transition to the next Invisalign tray by the time the old aligner trays begin to stain.
Does Invisalign treatment hurt?
The majority of our patients experience only mild soreness during their smile alignment. This usually occurs within the first few days after changing to a new dental tray. Any discomfort fades fairly quickly once your mouth adjusts to the new change.
What are Invisalign attachments? Are these dental attachments removed after treatment?
Invisalign attachments are tiny tooth-colored buttons. They are bonded to your teeth and help to stabilize your clear dental aligners. These dental attachments enable the aligner trays to precisely grab teeth for more refined and predictable tooth alignment. Without attachments, it would not be possible to extrude a tooth (pull a tooth down) or to rotate a tooth. Attachments are removed when your Invisalign therapy is complete.
How do I prevent cavities during clear aligner therapy?
Invisalign clear aligners are removable, therefore your oral hygiene remains unaffected. You can brush and floss as you normally would to maintain your dental health and prevent cavities. In contrast, traditional braces create difficulties with hygiene. This can lead to an increased risk of cavities during braces treatment.
How do I clean my Invisalign aligners?
Our dentists recommend brushing your aligners with soap and water at least twice a day. You can also use aligner cleaner for more intensive cleaning. To do so, soak your aligner trays within the cleaner solution for 20 minutes at a time as needed. Since you are changing your aligners every one to two weeks, brushing them daily is typically sufficient to keep them free of stains.
Can I whiten my teeth in Invisalign?
Yes, absolutely! We recommend using take-home bleaching gel during Invisalign treatment to enhance your smile. You can place the bleaching gel directly inside the aligners to whiten your smile while straightening your teeth!
How long do I wear my retainers?
Once clear aligner treatment is complete, it is important to wear your retainers every night when you go to bed. Otherwise, your teeth will slowly shift back into their original positions. Retainers are worn for life in order to preserve proper tooth alignment.
Can I get retainers that don’t come out?
Certain Invisalign cases require fixed retainers post-treatment. These are metal wires that are bonded to the inside of your front teeth.
We try to avoid using fixed retainers for a variety of reasons. For one, it is extremely difficult to properly clean around a fixed retainer. This leads to periodontal issues and an increased risk for cavities. Secondly, these retainers only secure the front teeth. The posterior teeth will ultimately shift back to their original position. We prefer using removable plastic retainers manufactured by Invisalign.
